2000 Soccer Olympic Games Argent Medals for Raul TAMUDO and TONI VELAMAZAN Gold Medal for Carlos Idriss KAMENI |
Sydney, 30th de September 2000 Final: Cameroon - Spain 2-2 Cameroon won 5-3 on penalties Champion Cameroon Sub-Champion: Spain! |
Down a goal down after just 78 seconds when Barcelona midfielder Xavi curled
a freekick low into the side netting from 19 yards, Cameroon had to survive a
penalty-kick barely three minutes later. However Spain's weak spot kick was
easily saved by 16-year-old keeper Carlos Idriss Kameni. Toni Velamaxan had went out for injured after 27 minutes! His substitute Gabri put Spain up 2-0 only moments before the half with his third goal of the tournament. At that stage of the match, Spain looked set for their second soccer gold medal in eight years following their triumph at Barcelona in 1992. |
|
But after looking dead and buried at half-time, Cameroon staged a stunning
recovery true to their nickname with two quick goals after the changeover. At the 53rd minute, Patrick Mboma's cross took a deflection off Amaya and bounced past Spain's keeper Aranzubia for the first goal. Mboma then provided the pass for Real Madrid Samuel Eto'o to make the equaliser five minutes later. |
|
After dominating the first half everything began to go wrong for Spain after
the break. Gabri was sent off after 70 minutes for a late and high tackle on
Nicolas Alnoudji. In the last minute of normal time Jose Mari was red-carded for
feigning an injury for the second time. Once Jose Mari's exited, Spain was left to defend for almost all the extra time period with a nine men. Even so, both sides came desperately close to scoring, but the golden goal never came. Cameroon was denied what would have been a sensational winner in the last few seconds of extra time when Eto'o was ruled to be inches offside before scoring what looked like game-winner. |

Afterwards the Cameroon players, some of whom had also captured the African Nations Cup earlier this year, celebrated jubilantly as the Spaniards collapsed on the field in tears. We know quite well as good keeper is Idriss Carlos KAMENI! |

Now the cancellation clause is 4.000 MPts. it means 24,040,484.175€ It will be better if you put 5.000 MPts! because it means 30,000.000€! His face when he saw the new deal! |
Toni VELAMAZÁN suffered a severe knee injury last January; despite his situation he
signed a new loan. We hope this helped him to get well soon. Now the cancellation clause is 3.500 MPts. (21 M€) and the contract extend it until 2006. We have a lot of time to see you again! |
After the problems with his former club Velez Sarsfield, who obstructed his registration in the Spanish league until FIFA ruled in favour of the R.C.D. Espanyol side, POSSE wanted a new deal a.s.a.p. | |
He want to extend his contract for three-year more, it means until 2006 and probably he finish his career in Spain; he said: "A footballer's career is very short and I hope everything goes well. We all love this city and we want to settle here in Barcelona." |
Sousa said: "The Espanyol president publicly said he was grateful that
a player who had won so many trophies was going to represent his club.
They are honoured to have me and I hope I deliver what they expect." He added: "I hadn't played for a long time and I opted for the Spanish league, which is very competitive and suits my style. Now I'm returning to fitness and hope to be able to play soon, possibly against Rayo Vallecano next week.". |
